Finnish Granite Centre Ltd., established in 1993, is one of the leading companies in the Finnish stone industry. The company invests heavily in the development of stone construction and in product development and is renowned both for being a contractor that serves its customer from the planning stages to the execution phase and as a supplier of stone material. The company’s services cover all stone products needed in construction. The main product groups of the Granite Centre are façade construction, interior design of public spaces and environmental construction. Finnish Granite Centre Ltd. is owned by Vientikivi Oy, Tampereen Kovakivi Oy, Scankivi Oy and the Managing Director Tapio Laari. The owner companies have in all three production plants, and approximately 50 % of the stone material of the Granite Centre is produced in them.
Services
Finnish Granite Centre Ltd. is a full-service company specialised in the stone industry. It is also devoted to promoting product development in the stone industry through, for example, its participation in various product development projects.
Finnish Granite Centre will be involved in the MONA project of Aalto University – a research project on multi-sensory residential environments – the design solutions of which will contribute to the improvement of constructed environments and uses of common spaces as well as to the safety and comfort of home environments. At the same time, the possibilities of art and culture will be increasingly utilised through harnessing them to the promotion of the communal living and everyday creativity. The project is likely to begin in June 2010.
Previous product development projects have included, for instance, a project focusing on developing façade construction into a more modern and cost-efficient direction. The project focused on structures, erection processes, production engineering of stone façades, reconstruction and logistics.
A third notable project involving the FGC is the “Obstacle-Free and Safe Street Environment” project. As a result of this project, a number of new, innovative solutions were developed. These solutions will especially benefit persons with various physical and sensory disabilities.
The FGC is also involved in the distribution of information about stones and stone construction. The specialists of our company often act as lecturers and trainers and produce articles for various publications of the field.
